Have you ever felt the dread of stepping into a gym? That was me, time and time again. Yet, recently, I found myself back at the gym, motivated by an upcoming trip and a desire to prepare. My goal? To start tanning and maybe squeeze in a workout or two.
Walking into the gym for the first time, anxiety gripped me. Despite my apprehension, I stood tall, scanned my app successfully, and marched up to the front desk. “Yes, I’d like to tan, please,” I said, amidst the background noise of huffing and puffing gym-goers.
Guided to the tanning area, I settled in and let the warmth embrace me. Afterwards, curiosity led me to inquire about the hydro massage bed. As I lay there, enveloped by water jets, I couldn’t help but feel fortunate. It was a moment of pure bliss, and I realized I loved my days at the gym, unexpected as it may seem.
When the massage bed finally shut off, I cleaned up and made my way to the stair master. Though my workout was brief, I reminded myself that something is always better than nothing. Simply stepping out and escaping the confines of my mind for a while felt like a healthy step forward.
I’ve come to realize that taking care of my mental health is just as important as physical fitness. Even on the days when I simply walk in, tan, get a massage, and leave, I feel great. It’s empowering to do something solely for myself, regardless of any potential embarrassment.
So here’s to embracing our own gym routines, whatever they may look like. Whether it’s a full-blown workout session or a brief moment of self-indulgence, doing something for ourselves is always worth it. After all, it’s those small acts of self-care that truly make a difference in our lives.
